Making the growth and visibility of a city's creative community – including filmmakers, engineers, artists, and startup founders – a key part of its economic development strategy has many benefits, and also presents unique challenges for long-term growth and sustainability.

Description:

Katherine Oliver, who oversaw the media and technology portfolios for the City of New York for over a decade under Mayor Bloomberg, brings a unique perspective to the way local stakeholders can support the creative ecosystem and foster a sense of community and lasting economic impact for a city. Katherine will present case studies from New York including the development of the "Made in NY" brand and more recent examples from her work with international cities including Mexico City.
