Take part in IBM’s free, three-hour Design Thinking Workshop on May 4, 2015, Day 0 of the re:publica! You only need to apply before April 29. Stefan Pfeiffer, Marketing Leader Mobile & Social Solutions for German-speaking countries at IBM, explains what it’s all about.
"I’ve been in the software industry for several years, and in retrospect, the solutions we offered were never really that easy to use: highly nested menu configurations, which frequently made the required function impossible to find; ergonomically suboptimal interfaces, and terrible displays for mobile devices.
However, the digital world is adapting – not least thanks to the iPhone, which has played a significant part in triggering this design revolution. Suddenly more apps are being designed for smaller displays, which need to be fully operable using only your fingers. Due to the reduced space, only the most important core functions could remain. Meanwhile websites have adapted to improve legibility on mobile displays, too.
This is why we are offering a Design Thinking workshop with our Design Lead, Gerhard Pfau, on May 4, the day before the re:publica. IBM has in recent months significantly invested in Design Thinking, in order to develop future applications with greater usability and integrated functionalities. Design Studios have been opened in many locations, where designers can develop solutions in collaboration with their clients. One of the first results of the incorporation of Design Thinking is IBM’s Verse, an entirely new type of e-mail client.
So what is Design Thinking all about? You can find out more on May 4, in a dynamic, hands-on workshop setting. Discover the core concepts of Design Thinking and how we can use it to change the way we design and distribute products. The workshop starts at 4:30 p.m. and lasts until about 7:30 p.m. The workshop will take place on Day 0 of the re:publica, so that it doesn’t collide with the conference topics themselves. So you do not need an #rp15 ticket to take part, and admission is free. Register now before April 29! Please note that the number of participants is limited. But what we can promise is that it will be very educational, and a lot of fun."
