Melanie has a background in European Ethnology and Computer Science and worked from 2005 until 2010 for the ‘Zentrum für internationale und interkulturelle Kommunikation (ZiiK)‘ (eng.: Centre for International and Intercultural Communication) at TU Berlin, mostly involved in projects dealing with Afghanistan. From 2009 - 2014 she was PhD student at the ‘School of Communications - Dublin City University (DCU)’, Ireland researching on the intersection of digital technologies, communication studies, STS and international development. Since 2013 Melanie is a research associate at TU Berlin and working on a freelance basis as a consultant and researcher in the field of digital technology, education and development cooperation as well as in evaluation of media projects. Previous cooperations include One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) Afghanistan, Ustad Mobile (Mobile Literacy), GIZ, MICT, Parliamentwatch and others. She is also co-founder of Konnektiv, Agency for Education and Development und Digital Unite e.V. Melanie was also a co-organizer of MeshCon (http://meshcon.net/), Fashion and technology Week 2014.
