Dr Frank Melchior is head of the audio research group and the Audio Research Partnership at BBC Research and Development. Before he joined the BBC in 2012, Frank worked as a senior researcher at the Fraunhofer Institute for Digital Media Technology and was Chief Technical Officer at IOSONO, a startup company now owned by BARCO. He has spent his professional career developing audio systems and leading interdisciplinary R&D teams on various projects including immersive audio, live sound applications, automotive audio and motion picture sound. Frank is very passionate about creating new ways to bring the emotion and creative ideas embedded in sound to the listener. Currently he is leading a research team which creates next generation audio experiences for the BBC.
